Windows CardSpace is Microsoft's client software for the Identity
Metasystem. Today on internet a person’s digital identity is expressed
as a simple username. Combined with a password, this identity is used
to access email accounts, Internet merchants, and even on-line banks
and other financial institutions. To overcome problems associated with
multiple username and passwords this new approach to managing digital
identities is introduces by Microsoft with the .NET Framework 3.0.
CardSpace represents each identity as a distinct information card. These
cards are easier to use than passwords.Furthermore, they employ strong
cryptography, making them significantly more secure than passwords and
other informat ion typed into web forms.
Interatction using CardSpace involves three participants Identity Providers
issue digital identities for you. . Any organization can offer an
identity provider, For example, businesses might issue identities to
their customers, governments might vouch for the identities of their
citizens or credit card issuers might provide identities enabling
payment .Moreover CardSpace itself also includes a self-issued identity
provider.
Relying Parties accept
identities for you. Online services that you use can accept digital
identities that you choose and use the information provided by them on
your behalf, with your consent.
You
have complete control of all these interactions. Using CardSpace you
can create personal Information Cards , which can contain one or more
of 14 fields of telephone book-quality identity information. You can
choose which of your digital identities to have and which one to use at
places where they are accepted.
Microsoft’s Windows
